5 TIPS TO ENJOY ROAD TRIPS WITH YOUR CHILDREN

In my family, car travel is a race against the clock, which starts when the engine is started and only ends when we reach the chosen destination. This happens because my husband thinks that stopping on the road is a mistake, only allowed when you have to put gas or when someone has to go to the bathroom. However, such a philosophy can make journeys very tiring, especially for my daughters. Do you identify? Time to make a change!

I have decided that the next time we travel, the tour will include some breaks, and I plan to make them fun for everyone. If you're in a similar situation, read on for some ideas you can apply in and out of the car!

1. Curiosities on the way. Along the roads, you can find advertisements that invite you to discover curious places or objects, such as huge chocolate or dinosaur sculptures, and large collections of miniatures. So when planning your next trip, do a pre-search for those places and include one or two on your route. The suggestion is from Amy Whitley's Trekaroo blog.

2. The peasant markets. Since we should always stop to eat on the way, a different option is to visit the farmer's markets of the nearby towns or cities. You can almost certainly find healthy food or products that you have never tried before. Another suggestion from Whitley.

3. In contact with animals. My friend Veronica tells me that her father took advantage of road trips so that the whole family came into contact with animals. Of course, safely. She always found farms to visit along the way and she remembers those stops as the funniest experiences on the way.

4. The pool. Another friend confessed to me that when it comes to rest on the way, it is a good idea to visit a hotel with a pool where you can spend the day. So, let the boys swim, to exhaustion, for a little while. Then, back in the car, the children sleep and she and her husband enjoy the silence. You can do the same if you find a lake or river where swimming is allowed.

5. Picnic and exercise. My friend Elizabeth and her husband, a dedicated athlete, do not miss an opportunity to get moving. They usually look for a park, play soccer or Frisbie, and then have a picnic.

And to make the ride in the car more fun, you can include some dynamics. Think,
in a game of mime in which they must guess a character. It is allowed to make gestures,
sounds, or movements with the arms. They can also play, in teams, to find places or objects on the road. For example, license plates of a certain state.
