Infobae spoke with a hair care specialist to understand what are the best options for healthy hair, strong and nutritious. What are they and what properties does each one have? Many go to specialists for treatments, others try simple home remedies, but there are few who know that within the diet there is also the secret to take care of the hair.


Infobae spoke with an aesthetic specialist, Dr. Irene Bermejo, who mentioned the benefits of consuming nine foods for hair care, highlighting that the most important for hair growth is consuming foods rich in zinc since they are involved in 7 of the 9 processes of hair growth.

Also, the professional stressed the importance of biotin since it stimulates the growth of the hair and is used in all hair treatments. Chard, lettuce, spinach, avocado, broccoli, among others, the more intense the shade of green, the more benefits will have to nourish and strengthen the hair. Leafy green vegetables are great since they provide vitamins A and C they stimulate the segregation of the substances responsible for maintaining healthy hair like biotin.

Carrots are rich in vitamin E, C, potassium, and beta carotene (a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals) this is what gives the carrot its orange color. In turn, it is converted by the liver into vitamin A, which helps produce the oils that keep the scalp hydrated, something essential according to Irene.

Lemon, orange, grapefruit, and all fruits rich in vitamin C promote hair growth and help keep it healthy, soft, and hydrated. Vitamin C has a key role in the production of collagen, the protein main that helps in the formation of fibers and connective tissue of mammals. Collagen is extremely necessary to keep hair healthy.

4. Fatty acids and omega 3
Lack of fatty acids and Omega 3 can cause hair to be dry and dull. These are the ones that bring hair to life, keeping it silky and shiny, plus nourish the hair follicles, stimulating hair growth. You can get this nutrient in fish, such as salmon, tuna, and sardines.

The egg is one of the foods richest in vitamin B12, a key nutrient for hair. The yolk is very rich in fats and is a moisturizer by nature, in addition, it can be used to strengthen hair follicles and their nutrients work as conditioners to increase volume, shine, and texture.

Water is not a food in itself, but it has a key function in the body and in the health of the hair.
